Cox TV packages come with a lot more than just TV channels. Here are some additional features that Cox offers to sweeten the pot.
Every Cox plan comes with one included Cox Contour DVR box.
Then, you can choose which DVR plan to subscribe to. Cox’s DVR service offers three levels of service to choose from:
These three DVR plans cost between $13.50–$30.00/mo. Unfortunately, none of these plans are particularly budget-friendly, and we wish Cox didn’t charge a monthly fee to record shows. Cox customers agree, with only 61% reporting satisfaction with its DVR service.
Cox only offers three plans: Contour TV Starter, Contour TV Preferred, and Contour TV Ultimate.
We think all three Cox TV plans are pretty expensive for what they offer customers, with higher prices and lower channel counts as compared to similar TV providers like Verizon Fios. Still, customers seem overwhelmingly happy with Cox service. In fact, Cox tied for second place in overall satisfaction in our 2025 TV Customer Satisfaction Survey.
Cox’s budget package, Contour TV Starter, provides customers with basic channels like PBS, The CW, and QVC. We say skip this package and either upgrade your Cox TV package or get yourself a digital antenna for a one-time cost of $20.00–$70.00.
One step up is Contour TV Preferred—our preferred (no pun intended) Cox TV plan—which offers nearly double the amount of channels than TV Starter, including favorites like ESPN, Disney Channel, and USA Network.
Cox TV Ultimate is the only Cox TV package that includes premium channels, so if you’re a streaming fiend, that’s the plan you should go for. You’ll get 90 more channels than with TV Preferred, including Max, Cinemax, MGM+, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, and STARZ, for $184.00/mo.

With every Cox TV plan, subscribers also get access to Cox On Demand at no extra charge. This perk allows users to stream live TV and thousands of On Demand shows and movies anytime from a TV, laptop, tablet, or mobile device.
Cox no longer makes its TV subscribers sign term agreements, which we appreciate—this gives customers the freedom to leave their plan without incurring early termination fees.
Cox also offers customers a new two-year price guarantee on its TV plans, locking in the current rate for 24 months.
Cox will sometimes offer senior discounts, although there are none for TV at the moment. However, low-income households may qualify for Cox’s ConnectAssist program, which provides internet access for just $30.00 a month.
Cox offers Starter, Expanded, and Premier TV packages with increasing channel counts.
